Toddler Teething: Early Molar Development Can Be Especially Painful

It is normal for toddler teething to take place up until the baby has reached the end of his second year and there is most pain felt when the first molars begin to emerge since they are not only big but also blunt, and they emerge very slowly as well. You can expect the first molars to emerge around the time the toddler is year and a half old, while the second molars may appear when he has reached three years of age.

Grumpiness And Feeling Low

The effect of toddler teething on your baby is to make him feel low as well as show signs of grumpiness, as he will feel heat and redness on the side of the cheek especially when eating when he may also feel pain. It may even cause temporary hurt when he is sucking the mother’s breast of from the bottle.

These toddler teething problems are something for which you cannot do much other than to rub his gums and apply teething gel in small quantities. The problem can be further exacerbated during cold weather for which you may have to protect your child’s face and generally keep him indoors till the worst has passed by.

It is also necessary to ensure that your toddler gets the proper diet so that the teeth grow strong as well as are resistant to decay. Thus, you should feed your child as much calcium, vitamin D as well as many dairy products and make sure that the toddler gets enough fluoride, though not too much of it. These simple means are effective in controlling your toddler teething problems, and you may even need to consult a dentist for further advice.

Another good idea for dealing with toddler teething is to not give him sweets until he has passed the age of two, though this is quite a problematic subject. You should realize that giving your toddler sweets can harm his teeth, though exceptions can always be made and a tidbit or two won’t do much harm. You should however opt for those sweets that easily dissolve such as chocolates, and then give him a drink of water and also give him thorough teeth wash.

In fact, teeth cleaning are very necessary and may be performed twice in a day so that there is no food that remains in the mouth, especially at night that could cause the toddler teething problem to worsen. It may even be a good idea to supervise the toddler’s teeth cleaning until he has reached the age of seven. You can also turn to modern dentistry to solve, and more importantly, prevent toddler teething, and dental care should be made a part of the toddler’s regular routine.
