Teething and Runny Nose Problems
Teething and runny nose problems often coincide, as a runny nose is generally a telltale sign of teething in an infant. There are conflicting reports regarding fever, diarrhea and runny nose as being associated with teething. Some reports have stated that they are usually associated with teething while others disagree, and it will basically vary from case to case.
Although teething and runny nose are often connected then, if you notice a cough, stuffy nose, high fever, sneezing or whooping cough then these are not indicators of teething and more likely are symptoms of something much more serious so you should have your child checked out.
How to Deal With Teething and Runny Nose Problems
If your child is suffering from teething and runny nose problems, then there are a few things in particular you will want to do for them. One is to use teething rings, and this is the most commonly used method for a reason. Teething rings are specifically designed to help relieve the pain caused by teething by equalizing the pressure on the gums to the pressure that is being caused by the incoming teeth pressing upwards on the gums.
For the runny nose problem in particular, you may want to ask your doctor what some good medicines are that are safe for your child to use, mainly so that they do not have to deal with an annoying runny nose, because besides that there is really nothing unhealthy or painful about it. You always need to double check with your doctor before giving your child any type of medication however and as well read the ingredients and dosing instructions beforehand just to be sure.
Topical teething gel is another great option, and it works by numbing the gums and tongue, so make sure that you use it sparingly. If you use too much, you can numb too much of the baby’s throat and they can actually end up choking, so you really need to be careful if you decide to go with this method.
Teething and runny nose problems can be frustrating and tiring for both baby and parent, however by using the previously mentioned forms of teething help as well as others, you will be able to at least remotely solve the problem, and remember that teething is only a phase and so soon enough your little one will be back to normal and feeling like their regular old self again.
