A Guide to the Best Teething Remedies

There are a ton of different teething remedies out there that you can choose from, and the best idea is to learn about as many of them as possible, so that when your own infant starts going through the teething process, you will be informed and knowledgeable and will already know the best ways to help relieve the pain that is caused by teething.

Teething Remedies

One of the best teething remedies is to give your baby cold food to gum on. You can try a cold baby carrot for a child that does not have teeth yet, and if they do have teeth, then you have other options, such as giving them a frozen banana. As always, with any other type of food that you would feed your baby, you want to be sure that you are careful and that you watch them carefully while they are eating or gumming on the food.

Another of the best teething remedies is to massage your baby’s gums, and so, making sure that your hands are clean of course, you can just put your fingers in the baby’s mouth and gently rub back and forth over their sore, swollen gums. This works to alleviate the pain by equalizing the pressure on the gums – the teeth coming up from underneath the gums are creating pressure upwards while your fingers are creating pressure downwards.

Another idea is to use medicines, such as teething gels, although you do want to be careful if you choose to go this route, and in fact experts caution against the excessive use of teething gels because they contain benzocaine, and so there is a risk of allergic reaction. As well, benzocaine is an ingredient which can cause a numbing of the throat in your baby and which thus can lead to them choking.

You always want to make sure that you consult with a doctor before going ahead and giving your child any type of medicine, especially if they are particularly young. You can also ask your doctor about what their teething remedies and ideas are, and although we all want to be able to relieve our child’s pain instantly, this is not often the actual case, and so you usually will have to try out a few different methods before you find something that actually seems to work.

Remember that teething is only a phase, and although it can last for quite a lengthy period of time, it will pass, and your baby will be able to get back to feeling like their old regular self once again.
